Friends of Red Bridge to conduct feasibility study

Final Plan and Report to be presented to Parks Board, City Council

The Friends of Red Bridge study of Red Bridge Road will engage locally- and
nationally-recognized figures in the field of progressive traffic engineering
and community involvement to create a proposal for the enhancement of Red Bridge
Road. The end result will feature improvements for safety and traffic flow, an
environmentally progressive design, treatments to the public right of way, and
the leveraging of natural and historical assets in Minor Park and the Blue River
valley.

The City-sponsored process, led by BWR Corp. was supposed to provide
alternatives to the previous design, but instead has duplicated the original
study. Therefore, FoRB is quickly moving to conduct its own study as a real
alternative. FoRB will update concerned parties during the process and provide
opportunities for true public involvement. A final report will be made to the
Parks Board and City Council around year's end.

About Friends of Red Bridge

Friends of Red Bridge is a community organization of over 500 supporters based
in the Red Bridge Road area in south Kansas City, Missouri. Formed in 2004 as a
response to the plan to convert Red Bridge Road into a highway-like
thoroughfare, FoRB's purpose is to defend local neighborhoods and parklands, and
to advocate an alternative vision for the 21st century in keeping with the
growing problems of global warming, petroleum supply constraints, and changing
economic development and demographic patterns that favor walkability and
livability over auto-dependency.
