This letter, written by the co-chairpersons of SCC, was sent to various local officials, and states that the city's proposed bridge is incompatible with the park setting and the historic location.
The secretary of the CPDC sent this letter to the city manager to tell him that the new bridge fails miserably to preserve the aesthetics of a single-family neighborhood and park area.
An email from the director of the Missouri Bicycle Federation asserts "Big, fast roads are not good for neighborhoods or parks, for pedestrians, for children, for the elderly, for bicyclists, and for other transportation alternatives. High speed and erratic driving create a road that is difficult, dangerous, and uncomfortable for bicyclists and pedestrians to use. Such a road is hard for pedestrians and motorists to operate both along and across."
Alarmed by the impact that the City's proposals will have on Minor Park and surrounding communities, this ad-hoc citizens' group was formed in 2004. Principal members and their advisors have met with public officials and attended public meetings regarding Red Bridge Road. Their supporters are composed of over 500 citizens calling for a context-sensitive design.
